In Lightroom Classic: select the photos, File → Export as Catalog, tick "Build / Include Smart Previews", untick negative files.
The catalog is a fraction of the RAW size, so it uploads quickly.
I return the catalog; import it with File → Import from Another Catalog and your RAWs pick up the edits.

JPEGs can be edited, but RAW recovers more highlight and shadow detail.
RAW files (CR2, CR3, NEF, ARW, DNG) give the most room to recover highlights, shadows and color. High-quality JPEGs can be edited too, with less latitude.
